MPH Student Kristine Poghosyan Awarded “Best Student” in Nationwide Competition by RA Ministry of Education and Science
YEREVAN, Armenia – The American University of Armenia (AUA) is proud to share that Dr. Kristine Poghosyan, a second-year student in the Master of Public Health (MPH) program, was awarded the first place in a nationwide competition for “Best Student” among health professionals (masters level) in 2018 by the Republic of Armenia (RA) Ministry of Education and Science. Minister Levon Mkrtchyan presented the awards to the recipients during the award ceremony that took place at Yerevan State University.
Dr. Poghosyan has been one of the top performing graduate students in her cohort. In addition to her excellent academic performance, she has outstanding professional qualities and has demonstrated perseverance and absolute commitment to her professional goals and responsibilities.
During her time at AUA Dr. Poghosyan has received merit-based scholarships. She has worked and volunteered in multiple health related research projects, participated in many scientific workshops and conferences to deepen her professional knowledge and skills and to present her work. Dr. Poghosyan coordinated the work of the Medical Residents’ Club at the Yerevan State Medical University (YSMU) Student Council.
She has also contributed to the work of the Avedisian Onanian Center for Health Services Research and Development (CHSR). She is an extremely successful health professional with very high standards of ethical conduct. Dr. Poghosyan earned her Medical Doctor (MD) degree from Yerevan State Medical University and has been a practicing cardiologist at the Nork Marash Medical Center.
Since 2012, the RA Ministry of Education and Science has organized an annual nationwide competition for “Best Student” to promote educational excellence and support top students in their professional development. The selection committee looks at nominated students’ academic performance, commitment to community service, professional achievements, and scientific work. The awarded students receive a certificate and a monetary prize.
The AUA Gerald and Patricia Turpanjian School of Public Health works actively to improve population health and health services in Armenia and the region through interdisciplinary education and development of public health professionals to be leaders in public health, health services research and evaluation, and health care delivery and management.
